Q4 planning, draft attached
Here's the first draft, let me know what you think…
Esuno brings mail, calendar, files and passwords together in one calm workspace. You run it, you own it, and you can take every message with you.
Standing on proven open-source software
The suite
One sign-in, one look, one server. Each app stays independent, so your inbox keeps working whatever happens to the rest.
Several custom domains on one server, hide-my-email aliases that forward to your inbox, and a fast web app with IMAP and JMAP underneath.
Day, week and month views, quick editing, and CalDAV underneath, an open standard rather than a silo.
Files go straight to the S3-compatible storage you choose, with share links and guarded previews.
A password vault built on Vaultwarden, on its own origin and its own database.
CardDAV sync through the mail server today. The web app is on its way.
Principles
Esuno is not a service you subscribe to. It is software you install, on a server you control, wired to providers you pick.
No central Esuno service and no account with us. Every installation stands on its own.
Pick the S3-compatible storage you trust and use your own provider accounts and credentials.
SMTP, IMAP, JMAP, CalDAV and CardDAV, built in. Your data speaks open protocols.
Encrypted, scheduled backups with documented restore procedures you can rehearse.
Your data stays in open formats and standard protocols. Moving out is a procedure, not a negotiation.
Licensed AGPL-3.0-or-later. Read the source, change it, run it, share it.
Mail first
Incoming mail is received by a dedicated relay, kept in durable storage and recorded before it reaches your mailbox. If your server is briefly away, messages wait and are replayed when it returns. The web app and Drive are never in that path.
Self-host
Esuno starts on a single small VPS. A step-by-step runbook covers DNS, secrets, storage, backups and verification before you switch your mail over.
# abridged, not runnable as is: follow the runbook
$ cp deploy/env.example .env # domain, storage, mail
$ pnpm install --frozen-lockfile && pnpm build
$ docker compose run --rm secrets
$ docker compose up -d
✔ caddy ✔ api ✔ stalwart ✔ postgres ✔ drive
Scale
The same Esuno that fits on a small VPS is built to grow with you: for a family, a company or many more. Storage, mail and the web workspace each scale on their own, so you add capacity exactly where you need it.
Day one
Mail, calendar, files and passwords in a single Compose file, on a modest VPS.
Growing
Files and mail contents can live in S3-compatible object storage, and encrypted backups go there too. Grow it as far as you like.
At scale
Independent services, and a mail engine that supports clustering on shared storage. Add servers when you grow, keep one when you don't.
Your messages, your calendar, your files. On a server with your name on it.
